A World of Differences Comenius Multilateral Project 2008-10

Intercultural Play. The Congress

We prepared this play about the Córdoba of the Three Cultures for our Comenius project on interculturality. We performed it for the theatre contest Estrangis, for our school UK exchange in March, for the I International Forum on Diversity and Interculturality in Córdoba, for our Spanish school association with Murcia and Olot and for our German meeting in Uffenheim last April 2009. The groups involved were the 12 years-old students in the plurilingual section of our school and the teachers Ana Cabello and Inmaculada Gañán. This is the presentation we made there:

  THE CONGRESS. IES BLAS INFANTE.

MEETING IN UFFENHEIM, GERMANY

We are very glad to be here and be able to share our theatre play with our European friends.

As you know we come from Blas Infante Secondary School in Córdoba, in the south of Spain.

With this play we want to show how our city was an example of understanding among the Arab, Jewish and Christian cultures from the VIIIth to XIIth centuries. We have chosen several characters related to our city from this and other periods of history that have been an example by their contribution to the understanding among cultures or by spreading wisdom. This way we will meet the Roman Stoic philosopher Séneca, to the Arabs Algafequi, Averrroes, Al-Idrisi and Wallada, to the Jewish Maimónides, and the Christian Bishop Ossius and Alfonso Xth, the Wise.

All this takes place within a congress about new technologies where our students are trying a new computer programme that produces holograms of historical characters.

We hope you like it and as one of the characters in our play says: if this coexistence and tolerance took place in a country and in a city in the past we can also make it possible today.

Our project “A World of Differences” will definitely contribute to this. Thank you.
